Sweet Bread

Sweet Bread

Every now and then I get an overwhelming craving for bread. Nice, sweet, fluffy, devourable bread. This is the first recipe I came across, and it works well. Freezes nicely too, but always slice it up first!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F)
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 ½ tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 6 cups bread flour

Directions:

  1. Dissolve sugar in warm water. Stir in yeast and allow to proof until it resembles a creamy foam.
  2. Mix in salt and oil.
  3. Mix in flour one cup at a time.
  4. Knead dough on lightly floured surface until smooth.
  5. Place dough in well oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled (1-2 hours).
  6. Punch dough down. Knead again.
  7. Place into well oiled loaf pans. Allow to rise until it’s an inch above pans (30 min-1 hour)
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Allow to cool before removing from pans, the hot bread collapses easily.
