Fanfiction

Under the penname Hecallsmehischild, I have written over a million words of fanfiction since December 2005. I've posted all of them to Fanfiction.net and the less embarrassing of them to Wattpad and Archive of Our Own.

Below are links to and synopsis of my favorites, sorted by fandom.

Invader Zim

Original content is a cartoon from the early 2000's (available on Hulu), a movie (Enter The Florpus, available on Netflix), and comic books (available on Amazon) released by the original creator Jhonen Vasquez.

Being Human. The Glass Lady has been in Dib's attic for as long as he can remember. Over the years, he stopped believing she was enchanted, but couldn't stop talking to the only person who didn't shut him up. Now, years later, he's starting to wonder if there really is more to the statue than meets the eye.

Erroneous. Oneshot. Zim has conquered his city, and it is only the first step in world domination. But one of his hyuman slaves seems disturbingly happy about this turn of events...

Muffins. There is only one thing that Zim truly cares about, and he will do anything to protect it. Or will he? (crackfic)

Possessed. With Dib branded as Irken property and Zim locked deep inside Membrane labs, two wills grapple with the loss of their freedom and question their ability to endure when they don't even possess their own names.

Reasons. Dib can't remember the last time there was light at the end of the tunnel, and only a lie from his very best enemy keeps him stumbling on. Oneshot.

Shmoop Happens. There is an intruder in the base. That's irritating enough, but a shmoopy intruder? Unbearable. Something has to be done about it.

Rebellion Comes in Small PAKages

  • Hey Spacejerk. Hey Spacejerk. Good job burning down my house. Were you hoping I'd have to move? Congratulations. But that's not going to stop me from spending my every living breathing second monitoring you. And sending you mail through a system you're too dumb to figure out. Enjoy blowing your voice out screaming. -Dib
  • Misdirection. Oh, wow. Look at the crowd. What a day for an execution, eh, Zim? Well, they’ve all come for you, so let’s get this show on the road. Time to end this charade once and for all. (Sequel to Hey Spacejerk, but can stand on its own)

His Names

  • Ayam. Zim finds himself stripped of everything, locked in an underground laboratory, and screaming at a voice only he can hear. He demands the identity of the speaker, but the answer may be more than he bargained for.
  • Elyon. In the wake of Zim's execution, a new belief is spreading like a weed. Red intends to uproot every last bit of it, but nightmares trouble his sleep, and a new ability leaves him questioning his sanity.

The Resilience Saga

  • Maneem. Betrayed by my leaders. Captured by the enemy. Set free on their terms. Threatened with torture. The feeling of helplessness churns my squeedly spooch. But I am Zim, and I will not be conquered. Trigger warnings. (written in 2007)
  • Maneem (Full Rewrite). Abandoned to the Earth authorities, Zim has no choice but to play the submissive prisoner until he can convince the Tallests of his mission's worth. When he's placed with a human family as part of his agreement, everything starts to go sideways. (full rewrite, not light editing)
  • Mekrelmar. Mekrelmar-Meh-krell-mar-: Disloyal, betrayer, one who commits treason, turncoat. Common definition: Worst possible sort of traitor in history. Trigger warnings.
  • Danem. Five years have passed. Zim has integrated into hyuman society-for the most part. But when he uncovers disturbing information about Red, he makes two deadly bargains-one with Gaz, one with the Eyeballs-to salvage his Tallest. But will the answer he's looking for be worth the cost?
  • Sempadinum. In the wake of his latest encounter with the Swollen Eyeball, Zim tries to regain some semblance of control in his life on Earth. But his governmental "questioner" is getting under his skin. And why is his sister always humming now? And what does Red think he's DOING with this stupid plan of his? Trigger warnings.
  • Scarazial. Scarazial: scar-ah-zee-al. To be torn apart. Separation. To split off into various factions. To find oneself facing someone, who was once an ally, as an enemy.
  • Zaygam. The Irken Empire has stretched long and far and wide in its time. The reign of its puppeteer threatens to plunge the universe into darkness. As Zim wrestles again with madness, and Riddick finds his home, the two must come together to face the creature that has tormented their kind for millenia, and free their species.

Mystery Skulls Animated

Original content consists of these animated music videos: Ghost, Freaking Out, Hellbent, The Future, and.... others as they come out every two years.

Broken. MSA x Undertale crossover. Their souls pulse softly in the little glass cylinders. Purple, blue, orange. The colors of my failure. I am not ready to say goodbye.

Before And After. MSA oneshot based on the prompt: Arthur and Dead or Alive Lewis hanging out. Well, both. Both is good.

Fearless. An MSA oneshot. Vivi couldn’t be happier that her team is back together. Even better, the Mystery Skulls have a chance at the big leagues if they do well on an overseas research expedition, and Vivi just knows they can pull it off. Certain team members might need an extra nudge, and maybe she didn’t really ask, but it will be fine. It’s always fine in the end, right?

Stay. The final human member of the Mystery Skulls passes on, immediately opening up a cold case from a past generation, and a whole lot of questions about the remaining totally-not-a-dog member of the group.

Just Legends series

  • Things We Lost. There are secrets you keep because you're afraid. Secrets you keep because the truth is too terrible to remember. And secrets that refuse to stay buried. Arthur, Vivi, and the Pepper family try to piece themselves back together in the wake of Lewis' death. When the secrets begin surfacing, Arthur tries to piece together the patterns before someone else gets hurt. (light editing in process)
  • The Weight of Living. Everything the Mystery Skulls thought they knew about Lewis has been shaken. With the Pepper family crumbling and Arthur's life in danger, the Skulls race to find the connection between Teles, Team Tome Tomb, and the Shiker before it's too late.
  • Torn Apart. One chance. One last chance to save the youngest Pepper from the curse that has claimed two lives and stained a third with blood. Arthur is losing himself piecemeal to the remnants of the Shiker within, Vivi has never been less steady, and Lewis can barely hang onto who he is. Will their efforts be enough to save Dulcie?
  • Flaws. The survivors of Demeter's curse have returned home, more bedraggled than triumphant. There has been no time to cope, no time to process, and no time to heal. Now the Mystery Skulls shelter with head paranormal researcher Dib Membrane, licking their wounds and hoping to reconstruct some semblance of normalcy.
  • Laughter Lines. It's been three months since Dib helped most of the Pepper family re-integrate into society. Vivi and Lewis spend their days managing Dib's schedule, in addition to Tome Tomb. Arthur and Kay have settled in together after a quiet wedding. Everything is fairly peaceful until Mystery reappears with a horrifying bit of information for Arcturus.

The Forest For The Trees

  • Rest, Nestling. Once upon a time, a frightened child named Arthur found a magical tree in the heart of a forest…
  • Explain It Like I'm Tree. Post-reconciliation. The gang has scraped together enough to mortgage a small house with an ancient tree in the backyard. What do they do with their days? Their holidays? What cases do they take, and which ones do they turn down no matter how high the asking price? How come they so much time in the back yard by the tree? Who is Mothman? A glimpse into their little slice of life, one mini-story at a time.

Thicker Than Water Tales

  • Best Served Cold. Arthur is a wreck. He's convinced that Lewis is coming for him any day. Worse, he knows he deserves it. But Vivi and Mystery refuse to give up on him, and Vivi keeps prying as to why he won't leave his house. Sooner or later, something has to give. (Heavy editing in progress)
  • Worse Than Death. For all the times she's berated Arthur for keeping secrets, it would shock him to know Vivi has a dark secret of her own. The mark of it has now seared her hand, and it's only a matter of time before her debt is called into repayment, and her lineage duties fulfilled.
  • Louder Than Words. It's no secret Mystery and Callie don't get along, but their enmity is wearing on Arthur's nerves. The Mystery Skulls gang is just trying to get settled in their new location, and the last thing they need is two high level spirits ending up in a face-off.
  • What Doesn't Kill Us. Callie is now a powerful dark spirit, and Arthur is determined to find a way to purify her. There's one person the Mystery Skulls can turn to for help, but he vanished centuries ago. Meanwhile Inari Okami still seeks control of Mystery and Callie, and is maneuvering to bring about Arthur's execution.
