Sweet Bread
Every now and then I get an overwhelming craving for bread. Nice, sweet, fluffy, devourable bread. This is the first recipe I came across, and it works well. Freezes nicely too, but always slice it up first!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F)
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 1 ½ tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 6 cups bread flour
Directions:
- Dissolve sugar in warm water. Stir in yeast and allow to proof until it resembles a creamy foam.
- Mix in salt and oil.
- Mix in flour one cup at a time.
- Knead dough on lightly floured surface until smooth.
- Place dough in well oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled (1-2 hours).
- Punch dough down. Knead again.
- Place into well oiled loaf pans. Allow to rise until it’s an inch above pans (30 min-1 hour)
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Allow to cool before removing from pans, the hot bread collapses easily.
