Baklava Rolls (Dry)

Baklava Rolls (Dry)

My husband loves baklava, but he's not fond of the syrup that it comes with. I reworked an online recipe to accommodate a dry version, and it's quite good and crunchy!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely chopped pecans
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Phyllo dough (thawed, if frozen)
  • ½ cup butter, melted

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. In a medium bowl, combine nuts, sugar, and cinnamon.

3. Melt the butter in a small bowl.

4. Lay down a sheet of parchment paper.

5. Carefully drape a sheet of phyllo dough on the parchment paper and brush the dough with melted butter.

6. Lay a second sheet of phyllo dough on top of the fist and brush the dough with melted butter.

7. Evenly sprinkle nuts/sugar mix all over the dough.

8. Tightly roll the dough sheets, jelly-roll style.

9. Slice into 3-4 pieces and transfer to a baking dish, or foil-lined cookie pan.

10. Repeat steps 5-9 as many times as desired, or until ingredients run out.

11. Bake until light brown (14-16 minutes). Enjoy!

Tip: Cover any phyllo dough waiting for use or for the oven with damp paper towels, to keep it from drying out.
